SUMMARY:Afro-Diasporic Connections\, Past and Present
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a roundtable event celebrating the opening of Mestre Didi: Spiritual Form\, a landmark monographic exhibition showcasing the work of Mestre Didi—the late Afro-Brazilian sculptor\, writer\, cultural advocate\, and spiritual leader. \nAfro-Diasporic Connections\, Past and Present brings together El Museo’s Chief Curator\, Rodrigo Moura; Guest Curator and visual artist\, Ayrson Heráclito; Dr. Abigail Lapin Dardashti\, Assistant Professor of Art History and Visual Studies at UC Irvine; and artist Goya Lopes for a conversation co-moderated by Chloë Courtney\, Curatorial Fellow. The discussion will explore Mestre Didi’s spiritually evocative and formally imaginative sculptures\, as well as the impact of his art and cultural advocacy on new generations of Afro-Diasporic thought in Brazil\, New York\, and beyond. \nTo foster dialogue\, simultaneous translation between Portuguese and English will be available. \nSign language interpreters can be requested for Museum programs with at least two weeks’ notice. \nThis event is free\, but pre-registration is required. Register here > \n  \n
