DESCRIPTION:Celebrate México’s beloved 3\,000-year-old tradition commemorating friends and relatives who have passed away with El Museo del Barrio! This year\, we are presenting a series of live performances\, art-making workshops\, a special altar\, photo booth\, and more! \n¡Celebra con El Museo del Barrio la tradición mexicana de más de 3000 años que conmemora a amigos y familiares que han fallecido. ¡Este año\, presentamos una serie de espectáculos musicales en vivo\, talleres de arte\, un altar especial\, una cabina de fotos y más! \nDía de Muertos Schedule \nProcession | Procesion\nCalaveras Callejeras with Atl Tlachinolli\n12:30pm | Departs from 116th St. and Park Ave\nThe celebration kicks off with a lively procession around the neighborhood led by indigenous dance group Atl Tlachinolli. La celebración comienza con una animada procesión en el vecindario encabezado por el grupo indígena Atl Tlachinolli. \nAltar | Altar\nLos Angelitos by Polina Porras\n1-5pm | La Placita\nInterdisciplinary Mexican artist\, Polina Porras\, presents an altar dedicated to the lives of children in the New York Latinx community and beyond who passed away due to violence\, war\, racial hate and inhumane border policies. The colorful and bright altar will include toys and fruit\, water and candles\, as well as El Chihihuacuahco\, a mythological Aztec tree that drips milk to feed children’s souls. We invite you to honor loved ones of all ages who have passed by contributing photos\, letters\, cards\, drawings\, favorite snacks or drinks\, and flowers. Polina Porras\, una artista mexicana interdisciplinaria\, presenta un altar dedicado a las vidas de los niños de la comunidad latina de Nueva York y alrededor del mundo que han fallecido debido a la violencia\, la guerra\, el odio racial y las políticas fronterizas inhumanas. El colorido y brillante altar incluirá juguetes y frutas\, agua y velas\, y El Chihihuacuahco\, un árbol mitológico azteca que gotea leche para alimentar las almas de los niños. She is the creator of El Museo’s Three Taino King Puppets that parade around East Harlem every January 6th. The artist has created puppet plays\, performances\, artists books and drawings inspired by ancient mythologies and personal stories. She received a master’s degree in fine arts and art and design education from Pratt Institute.
