SUMMARY:Video presentation of Sweet Blue by artists Libby Paloma and Ace Lehner
DESCRIPTION:Artists Libby Paloma and Ace Lehner shares with us her inspiration\, and creative process in creating this year’s altar\, titled Sweet Blue\, from the installation series\, Por Vidx\, for El Museo’s Día de Muertos celebration. On view in the Galleries until November 15 (open to the public Saturdays and Sundays 12-5pm only)\, the altar reflects on and honors members of the LGBTQ+ community by incorporating adornments found in queer aesthetics and communal spaces\, an all-to-often underrepresented or marginalized constituency. Open to all ages. \nAbout Libby Paloma\nLibby Paloma is an interdisciplinary artist originally from California\, currently based in New York. Paloma’s work often explores issues of iconography\, visibility\, and representation as related to her intersectional Chicanx and queer cultural identity. Recently Paloma has been an Artist-in-Residence at The Wassaic Project in Wassaic\, NY\, and the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson\, VT. This past year Paloma’s work has been exhibited at 25 East Gallery\, NYC\, Gallery No. 17 in Brooklyn NY\, at the Wassaic Project and in Honoring Our Ancestors by Fighting for Our Future: Día de los Muertos\, at SOMArts Cultural Center in San Francisco\, and the Dorsky Museum\, in New Paltz\, where she received the 2019 Hudson Valley Artist Purchase Award. \nFREE ADMISSION | Live via Zoom and El Museo’s Facebook | To RSVP\, click here. \nDAY ONE PROGRAMMING\n11:30 AM – 12:00PM | Opening Ceremony by Danza Azteca\n12:00 PM – 12:45PM | MANOS A LA OBRA: Ofrenda en Casa\n1:00 PM- 1:45PM | Lotería con La Catrina presented by Calpulli Mexican Dance Company\n2:00 PM – 2:45PM | Journey to Mictlān with artist Polina Porras\n3:00 PM – 3:30PM | Video presentation of Sweet Blue by artists Libby Paloma and Ace Lehner \nFor full Día de Muertos programming at El Museo del Barrio\, please click here. \nThis program is a part of El Museo en Tu Casa\, our new bilingual digital initiative encouraging visitors to explore and learn about Latino art and culture.
