SUMMARY:Film Screening | Day With(out) Art 2026: seeds in a dying colony
DESCRIPTION:El Museo del Barrio partners with Visual AIDS for Day With(out) Art 2026 to present seeds in a dying colony\, a screening of four newly commissioned short films exploring the ongoing HIV epidemic and the legacies of colonialism. Through movement\, ritual\, and storytelling\, the films examine how systems of power shape access to care — and how artists reclaim the body\, preserve memory\, and affirm life. \n\n\nPresented alongside Teddy Sandoval and the Butch Gardens School of Art\, the program builds on the exhibition’s themes of queer community\, cultural memory\, and connection. \n\n\nFeaturing films by Edgar Hudson (Tanzania)\, Bruna Kury and Matheus Mello (Brazil/Spain)\, Sido Lansari (Morocco/France)\, and Micaela Cyrino (Brazil). \n\n\nEnglish and Spanish subtitles will be provided. \n\n\n\nAbout Visual AIDS\n\n\nVisual AIDS is a New York-based nonprofit that uses art to fight AIDS\, support artists living with HIV\, and preserve their legacies—because AIDS is not over. \n\n\n\nAbout Day Without Art\n\n\nDay Without Art launched on December 1\, 1989 as “a day of action and mourning” in which thousands of arts institutions and organizations around the world unify together to demonstrate the power of art to raise awareness of the ongoing AIDS pandemic. \n\n\n\nFilm Lineup\n\n\n\nThere is an Elephant in the Room by Edgar Hudson\,\nMentor: Amil Shivji\nThrough dance and movement\, a young person’s journey explores survival\, exile\, and the weight of unspoken truths.\nViral Borders: The Geopolitics of a Pandemic by Bruna Kury and Matheus Mello\,\nMentor: Hiura Fernandes\nA frenetic digital collage examines HIV\, imperial power\, and the borders that shape access to care.\nForevermore by Sido Lansari\nMentor: Ésery Mondesir\nArchival fragments and testimonies of Arab queer lives touched by HIV become a collective act of remembrance and resistance.\nHow to project your voice without causing an earthquake by Micaela Cyrino\nMentor: J Triangular\nNavigating daily life in São Paulo\, Carolina draws strength from her grandmother’s wisdom\, recipes\, and rituals.
