DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Carnival Brazilian-style with El Museo del Barrio! Join us for a musical journey of this time-honored tradition\, kicking off with MGSP\, DJs based in Brooklyn originally hailing from Rio de Janeiro\, Brazil best known for their mix of Baile Funk\, Reggaeton\, and other rhythms. The duo will bring us a taste of modern-day Rio with a LIVE set on Twitch.tv/elmuseodelbarrio. (No downloads needed!) \nPre-game for our next Jueves Social\, check out this special mixtape by São Paulo-based disc-jockey\, community organizer\, and music researcher DJ Rafael Mendonça aka Rafael no Som. The mix include marchas\, sambas-de-enredo\, sambas-de-quadra\, frevos\, afoxés and batucadas – dating between the 1930s and the 1970s. The set will cover this wide range of styles that mark the history of Carnaval that populate the sound landscape of Brazil’s celebration of King Momus. Evoé! To access\, click here. \nFREE ADMISSION  \nBIOS\nMGSP is a duo of DJs based in Brooklyn originally hailing from Rio de Janeiro\, Brazil. They have brought their mix of Baile Funk\, Reggaeton\, and other rhythms to crowds throughout New York City’s most celebrated nightlife venues and beyond. This past summer to lift spirits\, they hosted a series of outdoor parties in Prospect Park that brought together a roster of some of New York City’s most respected DJs and cultural producers. \nRafael Mendonça\, aka Rafael no Som\, is a São Paulo-based disc-jockey\, community organizer\, and music researcher who’s been active since 1993 and played Brazilian beats locally and in places including Venice\, Paris\, and other art centers in the world. In 1998\, he started the legendary party Uma Noite pelo Samba (A night for Samba)\, at A Obra\, in Belo Horizonte\, which has since brought the musical genre to experienced and new audiences. \nThis program is a part of El Museo en Tu Casa\, our new bilingual digital initiative encouraging visitors to explore and learn about Latino art and culture.
