SUMMARY:OVER THE TABLE: Artist Portfolio Review
DESCRIPTION:CALLING ALL ARTISTS! El Museo del Barrio’s Curatorial team is inviting artists of Puerto Rican\, Latinx\, Latin American\, or Caribbean descent to register for a twenty-minute portfolio review. OVER THE TABLE\, a part of the Office Hours project\, offers art practitioners in different stages of their development the opportunity to engage in one-on-one discussions about their work or an upcoming project with one curator. These informal exchanges seek to turn the traditional artist-curator portfolio review into an act of camaraderie between individuals working in the same field. \nThis portfolio review features visual artist and Bronx and NYC-based curator Juanita Lanzo. \nGUIDELINES\n– Open to artists of Puerto Rican\, Latinx\, Latin American\, or Caribbean descent living in the greater NYC metropolitan area.\n– Bring images of your work (in whatever format you choose) and the equipment that you will need to present it properly. Free Wi-Fi is available in El Museo’s Café. Please do not bring any actual works of art to El Museo; this is against the Museum’s insurance policy.\n– You must be at El Café five minutes before the time allocated for your meeting and expect to be at El Museo for up to an hour. She is Longwood Arts Projects’ Director and Curator since 2008 where she has organized  over 40 group and solo thematic exhibitions in collaboration with emerging artists\, mostly of color\, women\, emerging guest curators and the Hostos Community College in the Bronx.  Her curatorial practice has focused on issues of gender\, race\, immigration and socio-political issues.  As a visual artist her subjective abstractions are evocative of life processes\, and the human body. Her artworks have been exhibited at Museo Conteporaneo de Caguas\, Museo de Arte e Historia and Galeria Francisco Oller in Puerto Rico\, Aljira Center for Contemporary Art in New Jersey and BronxArtSpace\, Clemente Soto Velez Center\, Wallworks and Longwood Art Gallery @ Hostos in NY \nMs. Lanzo has served as a panelist for the MTA’s Arts for Transit\, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs\, Percent for Arts Program\, Center for the Book Arts and the Lower East Side Printshop. She graduated in 2004 from City College of NY (MFA) and 1996 from University of Puerto Rico (BFA) and lives in East Harlem\,  NYC. \nABOUT OFFICE HOURS \nOH is comprised of a series of actions spread throughout El Museo del Barrio’s facilities for which multi-disciplinary artist Nicolas Dumit Estévez invites the various departments of El Museo to operate at a horizontal level with its own exhibition space. OH conceives El Museo and the museum as a holistic work of art; that is\, a living artwork existing beyond the boundaries of the exhibition space and co-mingling with life.
