El Museo del Barrio and Belongó announce a new multi-engagement residency in 2026, bringing two of New York City’s most influential Latin American cultural institutions into closer alignment at a pivotal moment of growth for both organizations. The residency marks a significant deepening of Belongó’s presence in the East Harlem community as it advances plans for Casa Belongó, a future performing arts center to be built just blocks away. Through this collaboration, both organizations affirm a shared commitment to artistic innovation, cultural preservation, and community-driven programming that reflects the breadth of creativity from across the Americas.
Kicking off the residency, Arturo O’Farrill and the GRAMMY Award-winning Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra present a powerful look back at two decades of groundbreaking performances across the city. The evening honors the life and legacy of spoken word artist Christopher “Chilo” Cajigas, with guest performances by turntablist DJ Logic and poet Caridad De La Luz, both frequent collaborators and torchbearers of Chilo’s spirit.
