The residency marks a significant deepening of Belongó’s presence in the East Harlem community as it advances plans for Casa Belongó, a future performing arts center to be built just blocks away. In a rare collaboration the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra presents ALJO + Strings, a sweeping concert that reimagines the Latin jazz canon. The program includes never-before-heard orchestrations of works by Chico O’Farrill, new compositions by Arturo O’Farrill, and fresh arrangements that blend the power of the rhythm section with the emotional depth of string textures. This performance is presented in partnership with Carnegie Hall’s United in Sound: America at 250 festival.
