Join El Museo del Barrio’s annual Día de Muertos celebration—a day of art, remembrance, and community for all ages. Inspired by Teddy Sandoval and the Butch Gardens School of Art and Octopus & Others: Acts of Collaboration & Poetics, the celebration invites you to honor loved ones who have passed and share the stories and memories we carry forward.
In El Café, artist Kristina Felix presents an offering of 296 loaves of pan de muerto—one for every death in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)facilities since 2023. Visit Diana Sofia Lozano’s botanical altar and contribute to the communal ofrenda. Bring a photograph of someone you’d like to remember, or print and frame one onsite. You can also create a clay offering in a hands-on workshop to add to the altar.
Join in communal braiding with a garment or piece of fabric you’re ready to let go of, or use materials provided by El Museo. Enjoy chalk activities and face painting, pose for a photo with a Catrín or Catrina, and explore the colors of your aura at our pop-up aura photobooth.
Discover large-scale papier-mâché sculptures from Aguascalientes, presented with the support of the Consulate of Mexico, and enjoy tamales, champurrado, and atole while supplies last.
Come remember, create, and celebrate together at El Museo del Barrio.
