Un Poeta
Directed by Simón Mesa Soto (2025)
Óscar was once a celebrated poet. Now he drinks too much, works as a substitute teacher to pay the rent, and mostly avoids his own reflection. Everything changes when he meets Yurlady, a teenager from a working-class neighborhood in Medellín whose extraordinary talent reignites his ambitions.
Rather than offering a conventional mentorship story, Un Poeta explores the complicated dynamics of generosity, ambition, and ego. With dark humor and a sharp, deadpan tone, director Simón Mesa Soto delivers a compelling character study that won the Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
